The Semantic Approach to Recognise the Components of the Underground Cadastre - Relevé Automatique des réseaux (RAR) Project

Abstract

This report discusses the Relevé Automatique des réseaux (RAR) project, which is funded by Innosuisse and carried out in collaboration with the Services industriels de Genève (SIG), the HEIG-VD, and the Center Universitaire d’Informatique (CUI) - UNIGE. The project aims to develop an industrialised processing pipeline that automates the updating of the underground cadastre for water, gas, and heating networks. The project is confronted with several challenges, such as (1) automation of all processing steps, (2) use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for specific object recognition, (3) skeletonization of the results to convert them into vector format, and (4) verification and comparison of the results through semantic reasoning. This report presents the fourth challenge, which involves: (i) defining ontologies for four networks, including water, gas, heating, and electricity; (ii) specifying topology and comparison rules between existing and new databases; (iii) transforming data to and from GeoJSON format; and (iv) integrating RDF data with knowledge representation and topology and comparison rules.
